Nifty and sensex plunge 3% , VIX soars to 9 years high.
Standard indicators Nifty and Sensex extended losses in the stock request on August 5 after weakening global cues and enterprises of a US recession dampened sentiment across sectors.
At around 1 pm, the Sensex was down 3.17% at 78,415.52 and the Nifty was down 3.13 % at 23,943.50. Around 388 issues rose, 3,126 declined and 83 were unchanged.
US futures were in the red, with Nasdaq futures down 5 while the Nasdaq entered correction home with the indicator down 10 from its each- time high. In Asia, Japanese requests led the declines, with the Nikkei down 13, its worst day since 1987. Meanwhile, the circuit swell was tripped for the KOSPI after the standard indicator fell further than 8.
